Start with the energy recorded by the meter

The energy cost of a session is the number of kWh drawn multiplied by the price per kWh including VAT. This is not always the full bill. Start fees, connection time charges and parking may be added. Different payment methods at the same station may have different terms.

If you know the energy recorded by the meter, use that value. If you are planning a charge, estimate the energy using the usable battery capacity and the difference between the starting and target charge levels. Gross and net capacity are not interchangeable.

Example: a 60 kWh battery, from 20 to 80%

In this scenario, 36 kWh must reach the battery. Assuming that 10% of the energy drawn from the grid does not reach the battery, consumption is 36 ÷ 0.90, or 40 kWh. At an illustrative price of 2.50 PLN/kWh, the energy alone costs 100 PLN.

The 2.50 PLN rate and 10% loss illustrate the calculation. They are neither a current offer from a particular network nor a measurement covering all cars. If the meter already recorded 40 kWh, do not add losses a second time.

Home charging, public AC stations and rapid DC charging

At home, enter your own price including VAT and the relevant variable bill components covering energy and distribution. Do not base the comparison solely on the advertised energy supply price. Existing fixed fees should not automatically be treated as a new cost caused by the car.

At a station, check the specific charge point, connector and payment method. A subscription may change the rate, but it also has its own recurring cost and limited coverage. A network's plan may not cover partner points. There is no single AC or DC price applying throughout Poland.

How do you calculate the cost of 100 km?

Multiply the energy drawn from the grid per 100 km by the price per kWh. If a car uses 18 kWh from its battery per 100 km, an illustrative 10% loss means it needs 20 kWh from the grid. At 2.50 PLN/kWh, energy costs 50 PLN per 100 km.

If your consumption figures already include energy from the socket, do not increase them again. The energy result is not the total cost of owning a car: it excludes purchase, depreciation, financing, insurance and servicing.

Check fees beyond energy

Before starting, check per-minute charges, any period without a time charge, the start fee and parking rules. Shopping centre parking and the operator's charge for occupying a point may be independent. An unknown fee does not mean zero.

In Stacja Obok, a partial cost remains labelled as partial. The calculator helps you calculate your own scenario, while the map comparison helps assess specific points. Before starting a session, confirm the terms through the operator's payment channel.

Guide sources and scope

Example prices are calculation assumptions. Check the terms of the specific point before charging. Confirm car compatibility in its manual.
